Recovery

September is National Recovery Month

September is National Recovery Month. This observance is used to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can help individuals with a mental or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life.

Just as we celebrate individuals who overcame or made improvements in serious health issues like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc., we celebrate individuals who have overcome or made improvements with mental or substance use disorders.

During September we reinforce positive messages about behavioral health being essential to overall health and remind individuals that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.

Millions of lives have been transformed through recovery, and oftentimes, these successes go unnoticed by the larger population. National Recovery Month provides a way for everyone to celebrate these successes.

By sharing our success stories with our neighbors, friends, and colleagues, we help increase awareness and furthers a greater understanding about mental and substance use disorders.

Please feel free to share your success story with us! We love hearing them.
